Over the Causeway

An eerie feel accompanied us as we crossed the causeway from the mainland to Holy Island on a grey and drizzly September morning. Once parked up and waterproof jackets on, we were ready to explore. We headed out to Lindisfarne Castle which is currently closed and undergoing extensive refurbishment. Somehow I think the scaffolding makes the shape of the castle stand out even more.

In the shadows of the Castle, we visited the walled garden and strolled along to the beach where I loved this gull sculpture.

After a lovely lunch and opportunity to warm up, we headed out for another walk near the priory. You could see hundreds of seals relaxing out on the sandbanks but the zoom lens I had with me wasn’t strong enough to get a good photo of them, so this gang of sparrows will have to do instead!
